Inside Me

Echoing in my soul
are the Monkees, piano, and cute VeggieTunes,
the acoustic guitar and the low sweet bass,
Animaniacs, video games, psychedelic rock.
They are safe in my heart.

Permeating my thoughts
is the clear scent of rain,
the ocean’s aroma,
the musty fragrance of the car’s air vents.
They are safe in my heart.

So clearly I can see
the glitz of Anaheim, CA,
the idyllic surrealism of Teletubbieland,
the spastic disorganisation of my room,
the staggering serenity of Colorado.
They are safe in my heart.

Perpetually with me
are Mum, Dad, and sis,
our all-too-human pets,
Slimu, Topper, K-Bowser,
Jesus most of all.
They are safe in my heart.

Drifting through my memories
is the pounding rain, the rolling thunder,
the maniacal giggle and obnoxious meow,
the gentle sound of the waters lapping at the final shore.
