Solitude
I want to sleep, but the dark is too light. I want to dream, but dreams have long been dead. Please leave me once alone without a fight To think the thoughts that scream within my head. "They" say to me, "Come join us for a while"- I smile and go, but wish I were alone And think, "Has solitude gone out of style?" Silence from them is water from a stone. Is noise so dear, of talk is man so proud That he must hear his own sweet voice and find The sound of no one speaking far too loud? I need communion silent with my mind. True friends are those with words you need not hear; Too many men these days do silence fear. |
