A Toast to Loneliness

A toast to this fiend so heartless and cruel
Who with withered fingers reaches to break
The heart tender; the heart unknownst to ache.
Yes! Bitter toasts to you, merciless ghoul!
Cheers to you before the embattled duel
When from the vanquished all joy you will take
To brood and guard over for greed's sole sake.
Yes! Caustic cheers to you, pitiless fool!
But awaken, god of dread-darkened night!
For sweet, pure love will yet be your dire fate.
'Twill sap your might and relentlessly fight
To save the heart before your closing gates.
Your dark depths will be shattered by a light!
Loneliness, take heed before 'tis too late.
